In 1982, a temporary shelter opened in the basement of the First Congregational Church in Stamford. The visionaries and co-founders Leslie Furst, Maureen Hughes, Pat Phillips, Nancy Stoetzer, and Reverend Gary P. Brown established what is today’s Pacific House Emergency Shelter.
Historical Timeline:
1985: Became an independent nonprofit
1988: Purchased and opened 597 Pacific Street shelter
1996–2020: Opened 10 permanent supportive housing properties, launched Meal-a-Month and Young Adult Programs, and became the founding partner of Fairfield 08, known today as The Housing Collective
2021–2025: Expanded housing portfolio to include Parkview North, a multifamily home in Darien, and two properties in Stamford’s West Side
2027: Rotary Commons will open and house 19 families, 21 individuals, and the new Pacific House headquarters. The second West Side property will open and house 15 families
